The Home project was conceived and run by Rising Tide in partnership with Hackney museum. The aim was to enable local young people the opportunity to explore Hackney’s history using 3 themes as a guide; Music, Protest and Migration.
Using artefacts and articles from the museum, the young people were inspired to write musical pieces about their experiences of life in Hackney. In this case the students chose an article from the 1960’s where 400 young people took a letter to Whitehall which urged the Prime Minister at the time to make incitement to racial hatred a crime.
Throughout the programme, the young individuals along with help of industry professionals were able to get involved in both lyric writing and vocal recording sessions within the Rising Tide recording studios. The project also spawned a letter to the then Prime Minister, David Cameron (to which they received a reply) and a month-long exhibition at Hackney Museum.
